Chinoiserie on Red Carpet

All eyes of the fashion world were on the annual Met Gala this past Monday evening. With a spring exhibition entitled “China: Through the Looking Glass,” it is only natural that the red carpet for the opening party be sprinkled with Asian decorative motifs and interpretations of Chinoiserie. There was Sarah Jessica Parker in a fiery headpiece by Philip Treacy, Kate Hudson in a gold sequined cheongsam-style Michael Kors number, Georgia May Jagger in a robe-like concoction complete with phoenix embroidery, and Rihanna’s epic marigold fur-trimmed, embroidered extravaganza whose train stretched down multiple flights of stairs. We are obsessed with the East meets West styles on the red carpet and can't wait to show you some of the looks from the gala.

The Collar
Either traditional Mandarin collar, or fashion-forward high collar, a tasteful and respectful way to capture the Chinese theme without going overboard.

Royal Cape
Capes, as in emperors, were another red carpet trend. Fan Bing Bing managed to be both theme-appropriate and over the top. Also see Lady Gaga’s Balenciaga kimono cover-up, and Rihanna’s fur-trimmed satin number.

Intricate Embroidery
What a great way to celebrate China's artistic influence on the West, by wearing gowns of crystal beading and embroidery.

Orient Express
Some celebrities embraced the night's oriental inspiration to the fullest with dresses in iconic embroidery & silhouette.

The Headdress
Headdress proved the go-to statement accessory for the night—the one night each year on which red carpet-goers are chastised for not taking a bold risk.

This Fall, Lumière looks forward to bring you a contemporary couture collection that weave in a sense of Chinese culture with Western fashion concepts for your wedding, gala, and special occasions. Look out for the launch date of our new collection!

Loving Styles

New York Bridal Fashion Week Roundup

Lumière's first bridal fashion week and it was not disappointing! It is our mission to look out for new styles that classic, romantic, and modern brides alike will adore. Here is a round up of the top wedding dress trends fresh from the Spring 2016 runway we spotted.

Thigh-High Slits
Thigh-high slits are a sophisticated way to do sexy. Chic sheaths and modern cutout numbers alike look good with a thigh-high slit. Slip one of these leggy looks on and you'll be ready for your red-carpet moment in no time.

Daring Illusion
Illusion necklines and backs have long been popular in the bridal realm. But now, designers are pushing the envelope even more with full-on illusion bodices. From ultra-sexy sheer tops with lace appliqués covering up just the right places or a more tightly woven lace bodice with layers of nude lining, these designs are as romantic as they are intriguing.

Romantic Color
Sure, most brides wear white on their wedding day -- but that doesn’t mean you have to. So if pink speaks to you, there’s no reason you can’t rock it on your wedding day over white.

Love Eventually

What a busy and beautiful Pop-up Showroom on Sunday! We had a great time collaborating with the creative team at DoubleTree Monrovia-Pasadena Area Open House Event. They put together a great presentation of fashion, flower, decor, & food for couples to visualize how gorgeous their love-filled wedding day can be. It's certainly a cozy yet contemporary option of event venue.

Bride-to-bes enjoyed their intimate fitting session at our pool-side showroom on a sunny afternoon. The very moment they fell in love with our hand-crafted gown, seeing the smile on their faces was simply priceless.

Many were fortunate getting a sneak peek of our one-of-a-kind Fall collection that is scheduled to come out later this Summer. If you are looking for a unique dress that makes you stand out on your special day, come try on our private designer collection on April 11 at Hotel Irvine. It will be an afternoon filled with fashion, jewelry, & style.

Showcasing Love...

Looking back on this past month seems like a dream. Valentine's Day, bridal show, Lunar New Year, and our very own Pop-up Showroom. We had so much fun getting to launch our Spring collection from design partner Ranee_K at our February pop-up event, and showcasing the hand-crafted oriental gowns & unique bridal accessories. We enjoyed getting to meet the stylish brides in the process, and chat about how to turn a romantic vision into a wedding reality. It took hardworking and gifted hands to make the pop-up showroom as beautiful as it was. Thank you to everyone that came out to meet with us.

With the gorgeous details on the gowns like delicate sleeves, ruffled elements, trains, lace, mandarin collar, and more, our modern brides enjoyed the afternoon selecting stylish dress for their 2015 wedding. Not to mention the beautiful jewelry from Chloe + Isabel on display that complements the look of elegance.

Special thanks to the printmaking artist Tiffany Kuo for making an appearance. Her design of love & wedding greeting cards sure was popular. But what we love the most was the matching pillow case set that we became so obsessed with! They absolutely made perfect bridal shower gift!

We hope you had the chance to come out and celebrate with us. If you missed it, you can stop by our upcoming Pop-up Showroom on March 29 & April 11. Come check out a curated assortment of modern qipao, cheongsam, headpieces, & jewelry. One-on-one fittings with a Lumière stylist will be offered by appointment.

All About Love...

February – It is the season of LOVE and we are beyond excited about it!

We started Lumière – A Curation of Love, simply because of our passion to celebrate —
the love for style
the love of East meets West
the love to embrace culture with a dose of modernity
the love between 2 souls

This week, we congratulate our very first Lumière Bride, Janelle, on her engagement anniversary. The surprise Valentines proposal was vividly remembered not just by the couples themselves, but by thousands of family and friends, as it was broadcasted live on TV. Janelle thought she was to enjoy breakfast with a friend - until her then boyfriend, Stan, walked in with the KTLA/5 morning news crew. He brought out a guitar and started serenading her as the cameras rolled. Lights shining on the couple as Janelle tried to grasp what was going on. With Southern California watching on live TV, Stan got down on one knee and popped the question.

Fast forward to the wedding, we were fortunate to witness the love-filled day of this sweet couple. With the presence of dear friends and family, the sentimental moments constantly gave us teary eyes through out the day. It's not about over-the-top centerpiece nor lavish wedding cake. It was the genuine loving emotion coming from the couples and their family that touched the hearts of 500+ guests. The couple defined what a wedding truly means.

Janelle selected one of our red lace Qipao as her evening gown for the reception. She looked absolutely stunning in the open back flared hem dress with glittering beading. The simple silhouette of this gown allowed her to feel comfortable roaming around greeting her guests.

"The dresses in this collection are top notch, elegant, and make you feel beautiful on your wedding day! Working with Lumière was one of the best experiences during my wedding planning process. They made finding my evening dress completely stress free! If you're a bride, don't second guess getting one of these dresses. You will NOT regret it!"
~ Janelle

We can help your find a similar gown for your special day. Visit our Lumière Pop-up Showroom on Feb 21, and browse our collection in person!
